Their musical bond is as strong as their small town roots. Twin Kennedy\, comprised of Canadian West Coast twin sisters Carli and Julie Kennedy\, have been making music together since they could talk. Born and raised in the small town of Powell River\, BC\, Twin Kennedy grew up perfecting their harmonies and dynamic live performances\, while making their name known throughout their small community as a family band. \nGrowing up in a musically infused family\, it is no wonder that these sisters crafted their sound through a unique fusion of their background in country\, folk\, jazz and classical music. Cash\, checks\, and credit cards are accepted. \n  \nA native of Cleveland\, Ohio\, David Anthony started his love of magic when he was five years old\, and his uncle got him a magic kit. He shared his love as a performer for the first time when he was twelve years old. \nHe worked vigorously on his show with the help of Rodney Whitlock\, the owner of a local magic shop. He attended his first magic convention when he was fifteen years old. Since then\, he has won competitions with his award-winning act\, “A Tale of Serendipity.” These have included 3rd place in the 2008 International Battle of Magicians\, 1st place at the Magi-Fest in 2009\, and 1st place at the International Brotherhood of Magicians in 2009 where he also won the prestigious Fantasma Award. \nFunding for this program made possible with assistance from West Virginia Northern Community College\, the Antero Foundation\, EQT Foundation\, and WETZ/WYMJ Radio. A group that always reflects the diverse makeup of men and women in the American culture\, RMPBB is dedicated to the notion that music is a gift to be enjoyed by everyone. \nThe Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass is a family-owned and operated business that had its beginnings on the streets of New Orleans. On the advice of family patriarch Ellis Marsalis\, the group created a concert format that breaks the usual barriers between genres and strives to create a connection between the audience and performers. \nThe ensemble is especially dedicated to reaching out to the world’s youth and inspiring them to reach for their dreams. Cash\, checks\, and credit cards are accepted. This event is being sponsored by Joel Potts. \nLong Point String Band is an Old-Time Acoustic “Neo-Traditional” outfit from southern W.V. They blend the authenticity of Old-Time Mountain Music\, with the flare of bluegrass\, regularly playing musical selections from West Virginia old-time and bluegrass pioneers. The group consists of the virtuosic stylings of Hunter Walker\, Brian C. Bell\, Lewis Prichard and Lars Swanson. The LPSB was honored to take home the 1st place blue ribbon in the Old-Time Band category\, at the 2017 Tazewell Old-Time and Bluegrass Fiddler’s Convention. \nHunter Walker is a multi-instrumentalist\, champion mountain dulcimer & clawhammer banjo player. Brian Bell is also a native Appalachian\, who has cut his teeth on the bluegrass circuits over the last several years. Brian is a first-call veteran guitar player whose rhythmic capabilities are sought after by respected figures in the Bluegrass\, and now\, Old-Time music genres. Lewis Prichard started playing guitar at age 8\, and mandolin at 15. He grew up in a musical family\, and is originally from Charleston\, West Virginia. Lars Swanson is an upright bassist from Beckley\, WV. Lars has played recitals with many prevalent Jazz pedagogues\, and frequently performs with the Marshall University Jazz faculty group\, as well as the Huntington Symphony. \nFunding for this program made possible with assistance from West Virginia Northern Community College and WETZ/WYMJ Radio. The free 6:30pm concert\, sponsored by First Mutual Bank\, will be held on the performance deck at the Francis Creative Arts Center at the corner of Maple Avenue and Washington Street in downtown New Martinsville.  Jessica Schoonover has been playing music and singing since she was 4 years old. In addition to singing\, she also plays fiddle\, mandolin\, and guitar. Tincher has won state banjo contests in Ohio\, West Virginia\, and Maryland\, as well as the Mid-Atlantic Banjo Championship. He sings and plays steel guitar\, electric guitar\, and acoustic guitar in the band. Light refreshments will be served and don’t forget a lawn chair.

DESCRIPTION:ArtsLink’s 2024 Coffeehouse Series continues Tuesday\, July 30\, with Talan Chambers. The free 6:30pm concert\, sponsored by First Mutual Bank\, will be held on the performance deck at the Francis Creative Arts Center at the corner of Maple Avenue and Washington Street in downtown New Martinsville.  Chambers is a recent 2024 graduate of Paden City High School. He has been eager to be onstage since he was 4 years old. He has been a guest vocalist/guitarist for the Ebert Brothers and Foggy Meadow Band\, opened for Barbara Lynn and the Silver Eagle Band\, won the Sistersville Oil and Gas Talent Show three times\, won his age group at the Town and Country Days Talent Show as well as 1st runner up overall and was able to open for John King. In 2022\, he won his age group in the Town and Country days Talent Show and Best in Show Overall. He has also performed three times at the Hundred\, WV\, Fourth of July Celebration. He performed at the Back Home Festival in 2023 and 2024. He has performed at Paden City Labor Day\, Music in the Park\, the Sagebrush Roundup three times\, and was a Finalist in the Wetzel County Idol. Sponsored by Barb & Tom Daly. \nCanadian pianist Sarah Hagen’s extensive touring has taken her across Canada\, to Sweden\, Denmark\, France\, Germany and Italy\, and twice to New York City’s Carnegie Hall. Awarded as Artist of the Year by both Ontario Contact (2017) and the BC Touring Council (2015)\, and mentioned by The Guardian (Charlottetown) as the Best Classical Performance of 2014\, her interpretations have been described as “outstandingly inventive” [University of Waterloo Gazette]\, ”played flawlessly” [Review- Vancouver]. \nAn avid collaborator\, Sarah has performed with cellist Ariel Barnes\, violist Nicolò Eugelmi\, cellist Phillip Hansen\, violinist Robert Uchida\, tenor Benjamin Butterfield\, horn player Oto Carrillo\, soprano Barbara Livingston\, Trio Accord\, Ballet Victoria\, the Emily Carr String Quartet\, the Bergmann Piano Duo\, jazz pianist Søren Bebe\, clarinetist Keith MacLeod\, among many others. Sarah has appeared as soloist with the Victoria Symphony under the baton of Mei-Ann Chen\, the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony conducted by Mark Skazinetsky\, the West Coast Symphony Orchestra with conductor Bujar Llapaj\, the Prince Edward Island Symphony under the baton of Mark Shapiro\, and the Symphony Orchestra of the Pacific with conductor Arthur Arnold. As a First Prize Winner in the 2013 Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition\, Sarah was awarded the opportunity to perform solo at New York City’s Carnegie Hall in May 2013. \nTickets will be available at the door. The intricate beats and stunning synchronicity are awesome to behold! The sheer variety of instruments and found objects they can manipulate is inspiring. DESCRIPTION:ArtsLink’s 23-24 Concert Series will kick off with a concert by the Fry Street String Quartet on Tuesday\, September 19\, 2023\, at 7:00pm at the Parlor Theater at the Doolin Center at 253 Main Street in New Martinsville\, under the sponsorship of Riggenbach Tile & Carpet. Tickets for ArtsLink members are $10 for an individual and $20 for a family (2 adults and kids under 18)\, for non-members $15 for individuals and $25 for a family\, student tickets are $5\, and will be available at the door. Cash\, checks\, and credit cards are accepted. \n  \nThis remarkable quartet – hailed as “a triumph of ensemble playing” (NY Times) – is a multi-faceted ensemble taking chamber music in new directions. Touring music of the masters as well as exciting original works from visionary composers of our time\, the Fry Street Quartet has perfected a “blend of technical precision and scorching spontaneity” (The Strad). Since securing the Grand Prize at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition\, the quartet has toured world-wide\, made acclaimed recordings\, and brought new works to the stage through innovative commissions of major American composers. \n  \nFunding for this program was made possible with assistance from West Virginia Northern Community College and WETZ/WYMJ Radio. This program is presented with financial assistance from the WV Department of Arts\, Culture and History\, and the National Endowment for the Arts\, with approval from the WV Commission on the Arts.
